What Stem Cells Do
- The very first cells are stem cells – they develop into every part of the embryo, foetus, baby and child.
- After you grow up, stem cells keep up a supply of replacements for old, worn-out cells.
- If you get injured, stem cells make new cells to help your body repair itself.
